Video coming soon. The video teaching for Day 6 is still in production. Read the full lesson below, it will be added here as soon as it is ready.

A few years back, I was walking through the Oklahoma State Fair with my wife: the booths, the smells, people trying to get your attention as you walk by. One guy at a booth called out to me. "Sir, check this out."

He took a pair of shears and cut a rubber bungee cord clean in half. Then he put a single drop of glue on the cut end, pressed the two pieces together for maybe two seconds, and handed it to me.

"Break that."

My wife was standing right there, so I had to. I put it under my boot and pulled until it snapped. He said, "Now look at where it broke."

Here's what I expected: that it would snap right at the glue joint. He'd only pressed it together for two seconds. That should have been the weakest point on the cord. But it hadn't broken there. It broke somewhere else entirely. He smiled and said: "That's why you want this glue. Because anything it touches becomes strongest in the broken places."

I've never forgotten that. Because that's exactly what the grace of God does to a man.

Your broken places become your strongest places

When God's grace touches the places where you have failed, where you've been cut in half by your own sin and shame: those places don't just heal. They become stronger than they were before the break.

I once got a call to speak at a conference for young pastors in training. The instant the invitation came, I knew what I was supposed to speak about, and my stomach knotted up. I had to share my story and offer hope.

I had 40 minutes to speak, then time for questions. They kept asking questions. They cancelled the next session so I could keep going. I ended up speaking and taking questions for almost two hours, deep questions coming from a place of pain and fear and hopelessness. Years later, people still bring up that session.

My test has become my testimony. My wound has become my weapon.

Your history with pornography, with lust, with shame: that is not just a liability. In the hands of a gracious God, it becomes a credential, a license to help others. Not because sin is good. It isn't. Not because the damage doesn't matter. It does. But because when His grace enters the wound, the healed place ends up stronger than it ever was before you fell.

Men who've never struggled with pornography a day in their lives cannot speak to a man drowning in it the way I can, because I've been down that road. I know what that Sunday morning feels like. I know what it's like to preach grace when you're not sure it applies to you. And because God met me there, held me, changed me, and made me stronger right at the broken place, I can tell you with complete confidence: He will do the same for you.

Grace doesn't just clean your record: it destroys sin's power

When Jesus came, He didn't come just to wipe your record clean and leave you alone to try harder.

"Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil."
· 1 John 3:8

Destroy. Not inconvenience. Not put a dent in. Destroy.

That means Jesus didn't come just to get you forgiven. He came to break the power sin has had over you. There's a difference between removing the guilt of sin, which He does, and destroying its power and presence in your life. He came to do both.

"My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin."
· 1 John 2:1

That's the goal. Not just fewer sins, not just better management: actually not sinning in this area. That's the privilege of a Christian walking in the fullness of what Christ has provided.

A prayer to pray

If you're in a place where you need to turn back to God today, here's a starting point:

Father, I come to You with a broken spirit, believing that this sacrifice is pleasing to You. I no longer want to hide my sin, excuse my sin, or make peace with my sin. I confess that I have sinned against You in my thoughts, my desires, and my actions. I thank You that Jesus Christ is my Advocate, that His blood is enough, and that Your mercy is greater than my failure. Today I turn from my sin again. I choose to make war with it instead of making friends with it. I receive Your forgiveness with gratitude instead of doubting it. I receive Your grace with humility instead of trying to earn it. I receive Your power with faith instead of trusting myself. Make my deepest wounds places where Your grace is seen most clearly. Teach me to run to You quickly whenever I fall, and to praise You enthusiastically when I stand. Jesus, You are my Savior, my Advocate, my King, and my hope. I belong to You, body and soul, forever and ever. Amen.
